Two Seriously Hurt In Car Crash On Interstate


Two people were seriously injured in a one-car crash on Interstate 84 near New Plymouth Saturday afternoon.
At about 2:50 p.m., Samantha Chaffin, 15, of Payette, was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on the interstate when the car ran off the right side of the roadway. Chaffin overcorrected back onto the highway and lost control, again running off the right side of the roadway where the car struck a dirt embankment and overturned.
Chaffin was wearing her seat belt and her air bags deployed. She suffered minor injuries.
Michael Contreras, 51, of Ontario, a passenger in the right rear passenger seat, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. He was taken by ground ambulance to Holy Rosary Hospital with serious injuries, and then to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center by air.
A second passenger in the right front passenger seat, Yvonne Rose, 26, of Ontariowas wearing a seat belt. She was extricated from the cartaken by ground ambulance to Holy Rosary Hospital with serious injuries.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash is still being investigated by Idaho State Police with assistance from the Payette County Sheriffs Office.
